Wylde Overdrive

Guitar amp question- can I make a stack out of this:?

I own a Kustom 12 Guage guitar amp- it’s a small practice amp with one Celestion 12 inch speaker. I have my eyes on an MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive pedal (and i’m considering the MXR Dime Distortion).

If I take my Kustom 12 Guage, purchase a 4×12 speaker cabinet, plug them together through the Kustom’s ‘Speaker’ input, will it function?
If i hook up the overdrive effects, will I get a good sound? In order, it would be set up as:

Guitar–> Overdrive/Gain/Dist. –> Kustom 12 Guage –> 4×12 Cabinet

I need a heavy, loud sound but i’m on an extremely tight budget. I would just like some advice on this idea. Any at all is appreciated, thanks!

There’s no free lunch when it comes to volume. In fact, putting a different cabinet with the small amp you have could actually decrease the volume due to a mismatch between the source and load impedances.

Save your money…you’re talking about buying pedals that probably cost more than your amp. If you’re on a really tight budget, look into a modeling amp like a Line 6 Spider. You won’t need any effects pedals with that. And while is won’t sound quite as good as a tube amp, it’s going to sound a lot better than what you’re proposing.

Good luck.
