Sticks Hickory
Are Hostess Hickory Sticks vegan?
..or is the natural flavoring in them derived from an animal source?
I am a former chef and a vegetarian, and only a Canadian would know anything about Hostess Hickory Sticks, I am one and have been eating them since I was a lad in the 1960’s, and when it says natural flavour it means it is not a manufactured one, and for the hickory flavouring it is all veggie.
It is hard to inject any animal products into processed foods mainly because of spoilage, handling, shelf life and stability, that is why they used veg oil to cook things in, any animal fat would make the products shelf life unstable, there is the exception of Pork Rinds, but that is essentially just pork fat/skin deep fried to a styrofoam like consistancy, so go a ahead and eat them, but as they are relatively high in fat and salt, moderation is best observed, the small bags at the convienence/corner stores are plenty.
